The college was established in the year 1983 in Nayapalli Area of Bhubaneswar city ,initially registered as NAYAPALLI COLLEGE Under the society Registration Set 1960,it was Subsequently renamed D.R NAYAPALLI COLLEGE vide Govt. Memo No 11840 Dated 05-03-1987.The +2 Wings of the College with Arts & Commerce Stream was granted Govt. Recognition and affiliation from CHSE in 1987.
Initially the college was functioning in Govt. Quarters in I.R.C Village ,Bhubaneswar for more than two years .In the year 1986 it was shifted to own land measuring 5 Acers at plot no –A/77 in Nayapalli Mauza ,which was allotted by the G.A Department in the year 1985.
The +3 Wings with its Arts Stream was opened in the year 1988 with Govt.Permission and affiliation to the same was granted by Utkal University from the session 1989-90 Science and Commerce streams in the +3 wings were opened with Govt. Recognition and affiliation from Utkal University from the session 1991-92 and there was also increase of seat from 128 to 256 in +3 Arts .
D.R. Nayapalli College became an added educationl institution w.e.f 01-06-1994 vide- govt of Odisha notification No 931967 Dt. 28-08-1999 and at present as a major college of the capital city .It imparts teachings in +2 Arts,Science & Commerce, having Hons courses in subject like English ,Odia ,History ,Pol Sc. Education in Arts Stream Physics ,Chemistry and Botany ,Zoology in Science Stream along with Accounting and Management Hons in commerce stream.
The students of the college in the +2 Arts Science and commerce classes is 256,128,128,respectively and the students in each year of +3 Arts ,science and commerce is 256,160,64 respectively .
The college has been enlisted under section 2(F) & 12 (B) of UGC ACT 1956 .The college has received financial assistance of Rs.1,13,00000 (One core thirteen laks ) from U.G.C under XI Plan Rs.11,45,3707 (Eleven laks fourty five thousand three hundred seventy ) under UGC ,XII Plan.
